Where does
sparkling wine’s sweetness come from?
The sweetness comes from liqueur d’expedition, a
step in the champagne making process where producers add a small amount of sugar or grape must before
corking the bottle. Due to the acidic nature of sparkling wine, sweetness is added to reduce the sour
flavors.
